Gambling Laws Against Underage
Most major casinos take huge steps to make sure those who are underage do not set foot inside their gates. They have walls keeping people out and typically only have a few ways into and out of casinos. Further, casinos typically require at least one form of identification at the doors and analyze each person carefully, before allowing them to pass through the gates. The problem of underage gambling is huge, as many youngsters want to get a piece of the action. The going thought is that if you’re underage, you’re not old enough to be making gambling decisions about your money. Underage gambling often carries stiff penalties for both the gambler and for the casino. If you’re caught gambling and you’re underage, you can be charged with a crime. Conversely, the casinos can get in big trouble and have fines levied against them for allowing underage gambling to go on inside their walls. Ways To Prevent Underage Gambling To prevent underage gambling, it starts at home. Talk with your kids about financial responsibility and about gambling. Kids need to understand that it is illegal for them to be gambling, the risks involved, and the penalties. Further, kids should understand what it means to gamble and what the odds are that they might win. Kids often see the glitz and glamour of casinos and think about how great it would be to hit it big. They don’t contemplate that they might actually lose—and lose big. But the facts are that most underage gambling participants don’t win. In fact, most adults don’t win. Gambling is meant for entertainment purposes. Yes, it’s great to have a strategy when you enter a casino. But it’s also good to keep in mind that gambling is a form of entertainment and that most people who walk into a casino with a wad of cash, walk out without that wad of cash. The odds are significantly stacked against the gambler. Why Is Underage Gambling Bad Underage gambling is bad because underage gambling participants have not lived enough life to truly understand the value of money, and because they are more likely to think that they definitely will win when they enter a casino. Most underage gambling participants have not had enough life experience to realize that their money will be gone once they spend it. When they walk into the casino, many underage gambling participants only see the bright lights and the symphonic music.
